PIV Systems

The typical PIV system comprises a computer system operating with Microsoft Windows XP or Vista, (2) digital camera(s) for image acquisition, (3) camera lenses and the (4) timing interface with USB connectivity.

The illumination is usually provided by a (1) pulsed or continuous wave laser system. The laser sheet forming optics uses a combination of up to four lenses and can include an articulated arm system.

The (5) PIV software comprises two modules: The proVISION-XS™ module provides an interface for image acquisition and processing of the data. The proVISION-XS Explorer™ module provides an interface to view the data, as well as export and import capabilities between the other programs. Both programs are totally integrated with the Tecplot data manipulation and presentation package.

System Benefits

  • Reliability
The system provides incorporates the most accurate and reliable correlation algorithm, providing 2-D and 3-D vector fields with the highest data density and free from spurious data.
  • Compatibility
The PIV hardware and software are fully compatible with the "double exposure" enabled cameras (MotionScope and MotionPro).
  • Portability and Ease of Use
The high framing rate cameras and timing controller use the USB-2 serial interface or Gigabit network allowing a laptop PC to be the host computer. From set-up to operation it takes only minutes. Operation is fully controlled by software with easy to recognize iconized tasks and integrated HELP.
